25 Foods to Try Before You Die

Dec 2, 2021 Arthur Murray

Here are My Busy Meal’s 100 Foods to Try Before You Die. I tried to keep it as broad as possible and as diverse as possible, so that even if you have a very specific food preference, you can still find something to eat on the list that you’ve never tried before.

It is not necessarily a list of “great” foods, but of foods that are worth trying.

In no particular order…

1. Pigskin Burritos

I could make this a vegan list, but who really wants to eat anything that’s been lying in a cooler for that long

There are no better sandwiches than the burrito. And no better burrito than a pig’s-skin burrito. And the best part of it is that you can get it at your local deli, grocery store, or supermarket and have it warmed up in your own kitchen in about 20 minutes.

2. Hula

My aunt and uncle moved to the South Pacific, and I was with them when they introduced me to this food.

A “hula” is essentially a sandwich with a potato patty on the bottom and topped with meat, cheese, and egg. Sometimes there’s grilled pinapple and peppers on top too.

The egg goes on top of the meat, and it is then covered with the cheese.

It is served with either “hula sauce” (which is sweet, spicy, and sour) or “hula gravy” (which is just ketchup).

It is delicious and easy to eat, and, as it turns out, very nutritious.

You can find them in some places in Hawaii. If you are ever in the islands, don’t miss out on trying them. Or give it a go and make your own.

3. Wanpaku Sandwich

You can find these at food trucks in some places in Japan, but I had my first one at my best friend’s house.

The wakamai is a sandwich made all sorts of ingredients. It typically has fish, beef, and a few vegetables in it.

This sandwich is very healthy actually, and it is a favorite food in Japan. It rose to popularity in 2016.

Here’s a really good recipe for it from Just One Cookbook (I’m a huge fan of their recipes when I’m looking for anything Japanese). It also goes into detail about how to make yours come out perfect!

4. Muhammara

This is a delicious red pepper dip from the Middle East. It is served with bread, and the bread is usually toasted, which is a common feature of Middle Eastern food.

But the muhammara is much more than a dip. It’s normally eaten in large amounts, as the center to a meal.

It is delicious and healthy, and you can find it everywhere in the Middle East. There’s always a place for it in my heart too. A real go-to if you want a dip that really stands out when catering for guests.

5. Toasted Baguette Sandwich

This French bread sandwich has been around for quite a while, and it is actually very simple.

You simply put a slice of cheese, ham, salami, and/or any other type of meat into the baguette, and then bake it as-is.

It’s a great addition to the recipe list of any sandwich lover, and it’s super easy to make. Less messy than grilled cheese can be too, because the fillings have less of a tendency to fall out

6. Pesca

If you’re looking for a light and tasty sandwich, then you’re in luck.

This Italian sandwich is made with fish, olives, peppers, and other veggies.

It’s a great addition to any meal, and it’s really easy to make.

7. Curry Mushroom Sandwich

This sandwich is kind of like a burrito, but the bread is made out of rice, and instead of meat, there is just cheese and mushrooms.

The cheese is melted, and it is then poured on top of the mushrooms, which are then covered with the bread.

It is pretty tasty and not too messy to eat, and, again, you can find them in any grocery store or deli.

8. Hawaiian Cheese Sandwich

This sandwich is kind of like a cheeseburger on bread, but instead of it just being a cheeseburger, it is a cheeseburger that is layered.

The cheese is layered in the middle of the sandwich, and then bread is placed on top of it.

Then, the sandwich is grilled, and it is delicious!

9. Spanish Cheese Sandwich

This is one of the most simple sandwiches you can make.

There is just one ingredient: Spanish cheese.

On top of it, you can place whatever you want, such as lettuce, tomato, pickles, etc.

It is delicious, and it is easy to eat, so it’s a great meal or snack to have.

10. Spanish Seafood Paella Wrap

This type of wrap is delicious, and it is pretty easy to make.

All you need to do make a paella, and then you fold it in a tortilla like usual to make a wrap.

It is not like most other wraps that you would find in a deli or a grocery store, and, being Spanish in origin, the flavor profile is quite different to Mexican food. But they are so more-ish. Unbelievably tasty paella, in the perfect street food form of a delicious wrap.

11. Fish and Cheese Sandwich

Fish and cheese sandwiches are a great sandwich to have when you’re looking for a less conventional sandwich filling.

You might have had fish and cream cheese sandwiches before, or at least seen them around. Well, fish and cheese sandwiches are just like fish and cream cheese sandwiches, except that instead of cream cheese, you have to add a slice of cheese to the sandwich. Super simple. It’s uncommon, but it’s tasty, and very easy to make.

12. Cheese and Chicken Skewers

Chicken skewers are always great. The chicken is fresh and the spices and vegetables go really well together.

You can easily customize your skewers to make them your own. If you don’t want to make your own, you can buy some at your local store.

13. Egg, Cheese, and Avocado Toast

This is a great snack that you can easily make at home, or you can make at your office, and you can even have it for breakfast.

It is the perfect snack to have in between meals. The perfect toast that you can have with your coffee or tea, or with your morning bowl of cereal.

14. Baguette with Cheese and Garlic

With this one, all you need to do is to buy a baguette, buy some cheese, and cut it in half and then either add a few chopped garlic cloves or just rub the garlic on the bread if you’re not a huge fan of too much garlic (or if you have to do anything social the next day).

You can easily customize your baguette to make it your own. If you don’t want to make your own, you can buy some at your local store.

15. Banana Grilled Cheese

This is a simple snack with an uncommon twist that you can make in no time at all. All you need to do is to cut a banana into slices, lay it on some bread and then add some cheese to it. Grill or cook in a skillet to perfection.

It’s a perfect snack that you can have for breakfast, or for lunch, or after you’ve had a good workout. It’s really easy to make.

You can easily customize your banana grilled cheese to make it to your own taste. Ham is a really nice addition. Here’s one example of a recipe I found online.

16. Baked Sweet Potato

A simple snack or part of a main course, but the beauty is that it can be played about with in a number of different ways. Plus, they’re really hard to overcook, so there’s no worries there. Nice and easy.

For example, you can go with the sweetness and put some cinnamon and sugar on it like this recipe does.

17. Avocado Toast

Avocado toast is the perfect summer meal. It’s something to make in the morning when you want to eat light. It’s super easy to make and only takes a few minutes.

Avocado toast is an amazing appetizer, but you can make it into a meal. Just up the quantity, or add sides.

18. Cheese and Tomato Scone

This scone is perfect for lunch or dinner. It’s a perfect savory snack to have. It’s super easy to make, and it’s delicious.

All you have to do is to combine some cheeses, tomatoes, bread, and butter. And that’s it.

These are pretty easy to make and they taste amazing. The cookies are made in muffin tins, and they are filled with chocolate chips and peanut butter.

When you are looking for a simple snack, you can make these cookies.

The ingredients are super simple, and you probably already have them in your house. Plus, they take only a few minutes to make. And they taste amazing.

20. Avocado Fajita Pizza

Fajita pizza is delicious. It’s a quick and easy snack to have. It’s made of avocado and topped with cheese and bell peppers.

It’s super simple to make and you can make it any time of the day. It’s the perfect snack for those hot summer days.

21. Cinnamon Popcorn

It takes only a few minutes and it’s somewhat healthy, but definitely delicious.

You can make it in the oven or you can do the popcorn in the microwave. Either way, it’s delicious. Get yourself a movie to watch or a really great TV series and you’re set.

22. Spicy Egg Rolls

Egg rolls are delicious. You can make them with any fillings you want. You could even go sweet and spicy if you want something even more unusual. Straight up spicy is my favorite though. A generous amount of jalapenos always ought to do it.

You can make them as a snack or as a breakfast meal. They’re a great way to get some protein in your diet.

23. Banana Chips

If you love dried food snacks, you should try making these. They’re the perfect snack to have, and there’s nothing better than having homemade ones.

You can make them in the oven, or if you have a multicooker, even better. Multicookers often have dehydration functions for making dried food.

24. Pan Bagnat

This sandwich is another of the most common sandwiches in France. It is a baguette that is stuffed with olives, raw vegetables, tuna, capers, anchovies, hard boiled eggs and other tasty items, topped off with a generous glug of olive oil.

The best thing about it is that it is one of the most delicious sandwiches ever. Really. Not the easiest one to handle, but one of the tastiest for sure.

It is also a healthy sandwich, and it is very popular in France. It’s one to learn how to make if you want to impress your friends with your cultured taste.

25. Panino (Panini)

If you are looking for a classic Italian sandwich, then you will definitely want to try a panino.

A panino, or panini, at the most basic level is just panini bread that is toasted, but it is stuffed with delicious things. It is perfect for the sandwich lover because the bread really captures that beautiful “toasted” flavor more than any other kind.

There are so many varieties of panini sandwiches, and you will be sure to find one that you like. I’m pretty sure everyone has a “panini” phase where they realize just how easy they are to make at home, and so, make them for lunch every single day.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my list of foods to try before you die. At the very least, I’ve enjoyed making it. Try some of these out, or let me know your weird and tasty food suggestions or the almost-unheard-of delicious concoctions you’ve tried before down in the comments below.
